Author's ChoiceTM
is a service available for most Karger journals, enabling you as the author to determine how you want to distribute your work. Author's ChoiceTM allows you to
increase the exposure your work receives by making it freely available for all readers anytime, anywhere via www.karger.com. While standard online distribution
is available only to customers who pay for access, Author's ChoiceTM enables everyone to read, download, or print your article.
Furthermore, selecting our premium Author's ChoiceTM option also enables any research funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) to be included in the NIH's
PubMed Central repository immediately, helping you fulfill your grant obligations and eliminating the standard 12-month embargo for PMC submissions.
The decision for Author's ChoiceTM or the traditional online distribution model does not affect editorial decisions at any stage. You will be asked to inform us of your
choice after the peer review and acceptance stage, when you return your proofs. All articles will be peer reviewed, copyedited and professionally produced, and available
both in print and online. Also, all articles, regardless of Author's ChoiceTM status, will be registered in CrossRef and included in the respective Abstracting and
Indexing Services.
The Author's ChoiceTM model entails a one-time publication fee of CHF 3,000.00, which is independent of any standard publication charges that may apply during the
production process. This service is a permissible cost in NIH grant allocation. For articles supported by some funders with Open Access requirements, such as Wellcome
Trust, Author's ChoiceTM is mandatory and will be reimbursed by the funding body.
Commercial application rights and copyright remain with Karger Publishers. Karger will seek to protect your work from misuse. Author's ChoiceTM articles are distributed
according to the terms of the appropriate Creative Commons License, which can be found under http://creativecommons.org/licenses.
